EWS Income & Asset Certificate — Uttar Pradesh
Understand both the income and property tests before applying
EWS certificate versus an income certificate
An ordinary income certificate records verified income. An EWS Income and Asset Certificate additionally addresses whether the applicant is outside the relevant reserved categories and whether the family remains within prescribed property limits. An income certificate alone therefore does not establish an EWS reservation claim.
Central eligibility snapshot
- The applicant is not covered by SC, ST or OBC reservation.
- Gross annual family income is below ₹8 lakh.
- The family does not own 5 acres or more of agricultural land.
- The family does not own a residential flat of 1,000 sq ft or more.
- The family does not own a residential plot of 100 sq yards or more in a notified municipality.
- The family does not own a residential plot of 200 sq yards or more outside a notified municipality.
Central DoPT instructions aggregate property held in different locations. Crossing one asset threshold can affect eligibility even when income is below the ceiling.
Who counts as family?
The central framework includes the applicant, parents, siblings below 18, spouse and children below 18. Do not examine only the applicant's salary. Follow the exact family wording in the prescribed form and recruitment notice, especially for married applicants or major children.

Common rejection risks

- Using evidence for the wrong financial year.

Read the rejection remark before filing again. A false declaration can create serious problems during later verification; ask the issuing authority when uncertain.
Official basis and current-data rule
The ₹8 lakh income ceiling and the 5-acre, 1,000-sq-ft and 100/200-sq-yard thresholds come from Government of India DoPT EWS instructions. For a UP application, follow the current portal service screen and state-prescribed format. Verify the fee, file limits and processing period on the submission date rather than treating guide figures as fixed.
